Is jumping into the ocean from an aircraft carrier allowed?

Probably not anymore.  [Later edit: I have learned that the Navy still allows this.]  The Navy shies away from risky things today.

However in the past, aircraft carriers did have what's known as, "swim call." For me it only happened once, on my first cruise aboard the USS Midway.  We were at anchor near Saipan or somewhere in the South Pacific.  The Captain had the aircraft elevators lowered, and guys would jump off them and go swimming.

I was not too interested.  More than sharks, I was more worried about venomous sea snakes that we would often see, all clustered together in the water by the ship.
