The primary job of the United States Secretary of State is maintaining diplomatic relations between the United States and other nations. The Red Cross, Médecins sans Frontières and many other charitable non-governmental agencies and organizations work in the very nations with which the United States has diplomatic relations.
How could it possibly be unethical for the United States Secretary of State to meet with representatives of charitable non-governmental agencies and organizations about their work in other nations that might reflect positively on the United States and the diplomatic efforts of the United States State Department?
