We are disgusted by disfiguring mutations. Not all mutations are disfiguring. Some mutations, we find quite attractive. Like blue eyes, for example; that was a mutation.
An infant born with two heads is unlikely to survive. An infant born with blue eyes, is. Our sense of disgust appears to have arisen as a protective response to warning signs of disease or other signs of unfitness.
