Three things:
- My main irritation with the anti-immunisation lot is that people persist in thinking that my son’s autism has something to do with vaccines. It doesn't. Vaccines don't cause autism. But if you treat my son’s autism as vaccine damage rather than an inherent part of who he is, you respond differently to him, and you respond differently to me. It is not an improvement.
- My son is old enough and immunised enough that your child can shed measles all over him and he’ll be fine. But my BFF’s brand new babies who aren't even born yet will be vulnerable for 12–18 months. And by choosing not to vaccinate, you're weakening the overall herd immunity [1]
- I would actually prefer your child to be safe and healthy. Of course it's your choice, you're the parent, but on balance I think your child is better off not having measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, polio and so on.
