Back in the 1950’s and 1960’s on the streets of my home town, Philadelphia, PA, the two most common weapons were the switchblade knife:

There were “guns” too - usually .22 caliber “zip guns”, made in metal shop at the junior high school or the high school when the teacher wasn’t looking:
