Listeria risk causes Blue Bell recall

Blue Bell Creameries has issued a recall of several chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream products due to fears that it could contain Listeria.

A third party, Aspen Hills Inc., has been blamed. Still, it’s the second time in as many years that Blue Bell has been linked to a Listeria outbreak. The company halted production in 2015 in Oklahoma after its ice cream was linked to three deaths in Kansas.

Blue Bell issued the following statement regarding the recall:

Blue Bell Ice Cream is voluntarily recalling select products produced in its Sylacauga, Alabama, plant because they were made with a chocolate chip cookie dough ingredient supplied by a third party supplier Aspen Hills, Inc., due to the potential for it to contain Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall affects the following Blue Bell products:

Blue Bell said it is issuing the recall out of “an abundance of caution.”

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall just yet.
