Why didn't other imperialists follow America's peaceful method to acquire Foreign Territories by purchasing them instead of waging war, occupation?

I notice you don't mention the Florida Purchase, also known as the Adams–Onís Treaty.  The circumstances were not nice: Spain was intimidated into selling and one motive was to get at fugitive negro slaves.

What basically happened was the USA purchasing territory that had been claimed but not successfully developed.  The USA always had plenty of settlers.

The USA also created itself by a war against the British Empire.  Tried and failed to take Canada in 1812.  Did grab Haiwai.  Took what's now California and Texas by annexation and a war against Mexico.  And took a lot of territory from Spain, including Cuba and the Phillipines.  In the Phillipines there was brutal suppression of those who wanted immedite independence.
