How did your parents decide on your name?

My dad wanted to name me Lise after his beloved cousin he grew up with. But my dad was born in Quebec and his name was Pierre. His family moved to Ontario when he was young and he was teased growing up about his name as it wasn't a common name in Ontario. He got called things like "Pierrey the fairy" and the like so naturally he had to beat the crap out of every kid who said things like that. It was exhausting. Dad didn't want his kids to grow up exhausted and having to fight their way through their childhoods. So he made sure our names couldn't be made fun of and he was very careful.

If he were to name me Lise, my name would be Lise Sonier. (our last name is pronounced sort of like "sawn-yay")

This sounded way too much like "lasagna" to him.

Not to mention the possibility of "Lise the sleaze" which is just not cool.

So Lise was off the table.

Then one night my parents were watching Star Trek and my mom saw in the credits that one of the actresses name's was Erin Grey.

Easy peasy.

Thanks Star Trek.

And thanks mom and dad for not picking a space name :)
