I've done it and for $0.10 over minimum wage. It is not so bad if you wear gloves. I also had to mop the floor and wash dishes. After a while I was a cook, but still had to help clean up, occasionally the bathrooms as well, with a raise to $1.00 over minimum wage. By the time I graduated high school I was a shift supervisor, with my own keys to the restaurant, opening and closing the restaurant, as well doing administrative work, reconciling the cash register and depositing daily receipts into the bank depository, etc. And yes, I still had to clean the toilets. I quit that job at the end of the summer, with sadness, at $2.50 over minimum wage, and left for my freshman year at Harvard.
There is intrinsic dignity in a job well-done and shame to anyone who looks down on it.
