When you get the specific gear that is issued, such as in an Army surplus store, then yeah that’s an issue. It signals things. It’s how a lot of veterans recognize each other. It’s also how a lot of not veterans recognize veterans. If you do something that, even accidently, puts you in a situation where strangers might say something like, “Hey, were you in the Army,” or even, “Hey, thanks for your service”, and you weren’t in… that makes people do this.
Yeah, annoyed face.
You aren’t exactly doing something wrong, and it isn’t even offensive. It’s just a bit annoying because it feels very much like borrowing a brand. Basically, there are much smarter ways to get your books to school than doing something that will probably identify you as a veteran to many strangers.
