Man attempted to blow his brains out, but only succeeded in blowing out the part of his brain that made him want to blow his brains out. He went on to become a straight A student in college.

• According to PubMed, was published in the British Journal of Psychiatry. 1987 Dec;151:855-7. A case of self-inflicted leucotomy. Author is the one listed in the popular press articles. (Thanks to Tracey Bryan for this reference.)
