If someone would have told me at 16, that I’d be a passionate supporter of the state of Israel, I’d have asked them what they were smoking. I wasn’t even comfortable calling myself Jewish most of the time, and I considered Israel a barrier to my goal of complete assimilation.
Many years, many events, lots of tears, lots of joy later and Zionism gave me an amazing network of friends, the best family and one of the best years of my life. I discovered how much I loved Israel, how vital Zionism was for me and how I discovered a place for myself amongst my people.
