Your original question is: Why do people find Donald Trump "trustworthy" and "honest"?
People do find Donald Trump "trustworthy" and "honest" per latest polls. He is leading by 5% point.
The simple answer is who is the bigger thief? Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton?
Per my personal understanding Trump can be defined as a thief at a ‘local’ level & Hillary Clinton at an ‘international level’ . He is selling cheap ‘trump oil in America’ and talking about talking Iraq’s oil now?
Both are not well defined in this space. I am sorry to say this about both candidates.

Trump has a 5% lead over Clinton on honest and trustworthy as shared above. People are unhappy with Hillary Clinton.
However ‘personality and temperament to serve’ and ‘cares about people’ Clinton is leading especially Donald Trumps shows very low on the former. That fails Donald Trump right there to be elected as President.
The state of affairs where US sits now is not good politically and economically.
US needs a very strong willed and experienced President, since President Obama has laid a good foundation.
Hillary Clinton is no doubt much better suited to serve America.
At the end the past is past, let's move forward to bring prosperity to the American people.
