A lot of writers have already contributed their own life hacks, so here's mine.
- This is quite often repeated, but study in small increments. Do 30 minutes to 50 minutes, don't overdo it.
- Intersperse studying with small 5–15 minute breaks. Take a walk, do push-ups, make a snack, listen to some music. You should stick to an activity that keeps you undistracted.
- Keep a stash of items that keep you going, whether it be candy bars, Diet Coke, coffee, gum, mints, or whatever you like. Just keep it tucked and organized in an isolated corner.
- Keep a trashbag near your desk. This helps an incredible amount, assuming you don't get your workplace dirty. Torn up papers, snack wrappers, pencil shavings, everything is easier when you don't have to walk back and forth to get rid of crap.
- If you accidentally close a tab, ctrl shift+T reopens it.
- Listen to music. Whatever genre you like. Some people enjoy listening to classical or really intense, epic music when studying, since there aren't any lyrics.
- If you’re in any oratory position, like a speech, presentation, or keynote, bring a bottle of water, and drink when you forget. Also, when memorizing lines, speak in a monotone manner, reading as fast as you can. You can interject more nuance, expression, and cadence afterwards.
- Use a gel-based, ballpoint pen like uni-ball from Signo. Whenever I use these types of pens, I write a good 30% faster than regular pens and 50% faster than pencils. These pens also write darker and smoother, making it easier to read and more visible on a scanned document.
- When studying, set timers. Over-estimate the amount of time it will take to finish an assignment, then you can move on to the next one, while having more spare time afterwards.
- Wear comfortable clothing when studying. It makes everything more enjoyable, and hopefully no one judges you, because you’re at home.
- If parents interrupt you studying, tell them to screw themselves. Just kidding. But try to get as much peace and quiet as possible.
