I was in court testifying on a case where a man had assaulted his pregnant girlfriend, in front of US, the police, and claimed we assaulted him and used racial epithets in the process.
Not only did he not want to take responsibility for his own actions, he was attempting to deflect blame by casting aspersions on our character.
Now the reason this bothered me so much is because I know racism does exist and it occurs between some police and civilians. But if the police are always being accused of racism in every contact, who is going to believe someone who is a true victim of racism by an officer when it actually occurs?
That concerns me in the same way that some men are unjustly accused of sexual assault by a woman who is angry and wants to get the (usually a) man in trouble. So when a woman is really sexually assaulted it might cast unwarranted doubt on her accusation.
