There's a five dollar note pinned to the noticeboard at work. It had been there for more than a month now, with a note saying “our lovely cleaner found this outside the men’s toilets. Is it yours?” At the end of the first day, someone wrote at the bottom, “no. I think our lovely cleaner should take it.” At the end of the first week, I spoke to the cleaner and told him he should take it, since no-one had claimed it and he had been the one who found it. He demurred. I pointed out (perhaps gauchely) that everyone else is paid more than him, so he had more need of it. Still he declined to take it. The five dollar note is still there.
