During my undergraduate years, I had a few radio shows and a music video show that I hosted with some friends. I was just a normal guy majoring in Political Science. But the rumors started that I lived in a private luxury dorm and I had access to a gourmet cafeteria. I don't know who started those rumors, but I heard them from hundreds of people on campus.
Next, I taught English in Taiwan. When I returned home, a male cousin asked me about my Taiwanese family. This cousin usually jokes around, but he was dead serious. He really believed that I had a wife and children in Taiwan. I had to explain to him that it wasn't true. His facial expression let me know that he thought I was misleading him. Many years later, I was having a conversation with some family members. Out of the blue, someone said to me, "We know why you go to Taiwan all of the time to visit. You have a wife and kids that you see." I decided to just smile. I know I don't have a wife and children. But many people in my family believe I do.
