What is the weirdest/grossest/most disturbing thing seen by emergency room staff? Do you ever find it difficult not to faint?

my daughter is an ER nurse. She is the one that when they get an out of hand frequent flier( the patient that comes back regularly with symptoms that are similar) she is the one they threaten with (as in, Do we have to get the bitch to deal with you?) I’ve only seen her upset twice in 15 years. One was a teenager who had been raped and beaten to within an inch of her life by her step father because she refused to willingly have sex with him. What made her angry was that the mother still didn’t believe the girl but sided with her husband. the other was an elderly man who ws brought in by his wife of 50 some years because he had chest pains. He had been told by the emergency services to walk the 6 blocks to the ER. the heart monitor they hooked him up to was showing “tombstones.” where the heart is not contractingand on the eeg strip it loks like headstones in a row. Nearly nobody lives when they have those symptoms . When she and the doctor went to talk to him, h told them he also had terminal bowel cancer. He hadn’t told his wife, they had to tell the poor woman her husband was dyin and there wa nothing they could do.

she came home reeking of decay the other week, she had taken care of a patient who had wrapped a sore leg so tightly that the blood circulation had not been able to reach the surface of his leg and it was literally white due to the fact that he had not change the bandage in more than a week despite taking a shower every dayand his leg stayed wet. the skin was literally falling off in the bandgae as he remove it and smelled like someone had died. He should have died fron gangrene but was treated with antibiotics and sent upstairs for skin graphs. he will live. so will his leg for some reason.

Nope I was wrong there was a third time she was really upset, visibly shaking when she was sent home early. An old man had walked into the ER with what appeared to be pneumonia. The minute she walked into his cubicle she started panicking and shaking. When she was seven, a neighbour had broken into our house and tried to rape me with my children in my bed beside me( single mom, 2 kids who liked in mommy’s bed).he said he really was looking for her room when he was found guilty of assault and sentenced. Hehad rapedand beat more than a dozen women in the community. 35 years later he showed up in her ER, she recognized him by sensing the evil underneath the surface and she refused to treat him but instead called security and her supervisor, who had him transfered to another ER afew miles away with actual police on duty all the time. Turns out he was wanted on a countrywide warrant for rape and murder of an elderly woman and the murder of the woman’s husband some 3000 kilometers away.
