It seemed like a normal, clear, sunny summer day when I drove from my parents’ house to my summer job. That involved driving past some flat farm fields devoid of trees and buildings. Suddenly to my right I saw something coming across the field toward the road that looked like a miniature tornado (in retrospect, it was probably a dirt devil). I thought to myself, “What the heck is that? Well, whatever it is I’m about to drive through it.” So I did. As we met, my parents’ car did a quick shake, kind of on the level of a transport truck speeding past, luckily nothing strong enough to flip the car, and I continued driving. What struck me at the time was that this thing looked like a small tornado but the weather was clear, and there were also no buildings nearby to simply stir up some wind currents. It was just a random mini-tornado traveling across the land for no particular reason. I had not seen anything like that before or since and neither has my family. This was in south-central Ontario, Canada, not an area known for dirt devils.
Although seeing a dirt devil in a field was the strangest thing I have seen, the second-strangest was my husband actually using our Dirt Devil vacuum.
