Others are out to get you
This is screamed at us since childhood. It starts with ‘don't talk to strangers’ and ends with ‘work against your peers’. Constantly we are told that other people are for themselves and against us. Our colleagues are out to get that promotion, our friends are out to get our time, our lovers want… Something!
I hear a lot of people saying ‘I'm a nice person, but I feel like I'm the only one’. The truth is, most people are a lot like us. Most people want to help others, and feel bad when they hurt someone else. Most people want to be nice, and kind, and respectable. Most people want to think of themselves as good and not bad. And most people are.
Trust. We need more trust in this world. People aren't as bad as we give them credit for.
