I saw a high school student commit suicide by jumping infront of a train. The impact of the train did a lot of damage but didn't kill him right away. When the train went over him there was enough space between the ground and train for him to avoid being crushed.
From my angle on the train platform, I could see his chest going up and down under the train and knew he was still alive. But I don't know if he was conscious.
One of his legs was extended after he jumped and he got his foot cut off. That's the image that burned itself into my mind, the bloody exposed end of a foot still in the sneaker.
Police showed up right away and cleared us onlookers out. The newspaper article the next day said he was rushed to the hospital but died shortly after.
I debated if I should write about this or not. Hopefully it will be cathartic.
