What was the best handmade gift you've ever received?

I actually rarely receive handmade gifts, I’m usually the one expected to make them.

But once, many many moons ago, I did get one.

An oiled canvas black duster. Much like this

Made by, of all people, my father. He had sewn me an ankle length, to my size, coat like this. Yes, he knew how to sew, it was a skill his grandfather taught him.

I loved it. Long split, designed to be worn on the streets or while riding a horse, with the pockets where they needed to be and the right length arms, small collar(I’m not a fan of collars).

I wore it a lot. Always got strange looks. Because lets be honest, the last thing you expect to see a punk/rave kid wearing is a long Western coat with combat boots or neon platforms and blue hair. Or see a girl with blue hair on a horse in a full coat.

Unfortunately, I no longer have it. I had taken it to my father for some cleaning and seam work back when I still had a relationship with him. Left it in his care, since I had neither the tools to sewn oiled canvas nor the proper items to clean it. After he fixed and cleaned it, he gave it to some woman he was cheating on his live-in girlfriend with. “She liked it and it fit so well! Don’t worry, I’ll make another one for you some time.” Yeah, he never did make me another, which is what I had expected.
