1. Vanity Fair – The Hive: @VFHIVE is a new mobile business vertical site produced by @VanityFair. It plans to cover in-depth the business power brokers in New York, Washington and Silicon Valley. Along with the business side, The Hive will also cover technology and political news that intersects with their business news stories. Jon Kelly (@jonkelly2) is the editor and is planning to produce ten stories per day for the site. The Hive also creates a morning newsletter with a recap of the previous day’s stories.
2. The Denver Post: Team News Leader Lee Ann Colacioppo (@LAColacioppo) has been promoted to editor of @denverpost. Colacioppo has been with the paper for 17 years and becomes the first woman to hold the top editorial role in the paper’s history. Before the Post, she was an assistant city editor at the Des Moines Register and the Greenville News. Colacioppo takes over for Greg Moore who moved on earlier this year. She will be exploring ways to grow the Post’s digital audience in her new role.
3. CNN – New York Bureau: Former Los Angeles Times Managing Editor/Editorial Strategy S. Mitra Kalita (@mitrakalita) is returning to New York to enlist at @CNN as Vice President of Digital Programming. She previously worked in the Big Apple as an executive editor at Quartz and also at The Wall Street Journal as a senior editor and economics editor. CNN recently announced a plan to staff up its digital news side with 200 new people and is investing $200 million behind the plan. Kalita will be in charge of growing this new avenue.
4. The Missoulian: Former Seattle Times Editor Kathy Best (@kbest) will become the new editor of @missoulian at the end of June. Best was head of the Seattle paper during the time it won three Pulitzer Prizes and she also brings the experiences of being an assistant managing editor at the St. Louis Dispatch and The Baltimore Sun.
5. Chicago Tribune: Former Arizona Republic Assistant Business Editor Kimberly Quillen (@quillenkim) recently landed in Chi-town to become the business source editor at @chicagotribune. Quillen started her career as an assistant editor at the Delaware State News and then spent 14 years in New Orleans at The Times Picayune where she was the business editor for seven of them. In her new role at the Tribune, Quillen will be covering the food industry and workplace issues.
