What is the best course of action when someone is following you in a car while you are driving?

Depending where you are at, fire stations are not always open 24/7.  A good amount of the country the fire force is a voluntary group and no one is at the station house 99.9% of the time.  Even then what will a firefighter be able to do to stop a criminal if they intend to do you harm.  They do not have the tools or the training to stop criminal activity.

The best course of action if you think you are being followed is to call 911, and continue to drive in populated areas while avoiding high traffic areas where you might be forced to stop.  Follow the instruction of the 911 officer about where to drive to next.  Standard procedure will be to dispatch an officer to you, but that can take several minutes if not longer so they may direct you to drive to an area that has more officer presence.

You should never stop and confront the person or drive to your house or place of work and attempt to hide.  You also should not drive to a location such as a mall or gas station and attempt to run inside.  You are safest when you are in your car.  It provides you physical protection, the ability to quickly get away and can be used as a weapon of last resort.
