Is Steven Pinker correct that college admissions officers should place much more emphasis on standardized tests like the SAT?

My university dropped standardized tests as a requirement for admission a couple of years ago.  There was a lot of discussion on it.  We had considered it ten years before, but decided to keep the requirement then.  This time, faculty were strongly in favor of dropping SAT as a requirement.

What made the difference?  A deep analysis of the value added by SAT scores.  We looked at how well students did based on graduation and grades in college. We found that admissions information that did not include SAT scores predicted success in college as well or better than including the scores.
