- Andy Serkis delivering another likely Oscar-worthy performance.
- Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, the definitive fantasy hero of the series IMO.
- The humor and some more fanciful elements, which will make this film and trilogy different from the LOTR trilogy.
- Smaug! Only a few films (like Dragonslayer) have ever presented truly great on-film dragons, and hopefully Peter Jackson delivers another great one for us. (Obviously, Smaug won't appear until the second film in this trilogy, though.)
- 48 frames per second, which is going to change movie-making and elevate 3D to something even more immersive than ever before. It'll be like the first time you saw Blu-ray compared to DVD.
- The overall excitement and wonder of a return to this world that's been brought to vivid life by a filmmaker, cast, and crew who put their hearts into this labor of love, which they present as a gift to the audience and fans of the series.
