What is the most humane gesture you have ever encountered?

I was standing outside of the train station I commute from to return home,  having a cigarette. A homeless dude asked me for money for food, I didn't have any, so I gave him a cigarette instead.

He stood there chatting to me whilst we smoked, really friendly and intelligent chap. Another homeless guy came over and asked the same question - he looked far more 'homeless' than the guy I was chatting to. Ragged clothes, long,  greasy hair, clearly on crack or something. I expressed regret and offered him a cigarette, he declined saying he needed food. The guy I was chatting to reached into his back pack and pulled out a full packet of biscuits and handed them to the other homeless guy and said "here you go brotha, sorry I don't have anything better".

Needless to say I found it very moving... I got a later train and bought them both dinner, and gave the first guy money to put them both up in a hostel for the night, as I knew the other guy wouldn't be able to resist spending it on drugs.
