Why does the US demand disarmament of nuclear weapons from others, but doesn't disarm itself?

I got news for you.  Hypocrisy and inconsistency doesn't matter much in foreign policy.  It's a tough neighborhood out there, and if you unilaterally disarm, the reaction for other countries is not "hey! let's disarm" but rather "let's beat up on the guy that disarmed!!!"

Also, one irony is that fact that the US and the Russia had nukes in fact kept nukes from spreading.  The US and Russia could go to their allies, and say "hey, why are you trying to develop your own nukes, you can use ours!!!!"
