I live in Spain and hunt on most weekends during the hunting season.
I own a 300 Winchester magnum rifle and 2 12 caliber shotguns.
I am perfectly free to own them, in the same way that I am free to own a car. But because firearms are dangerous (duh...), like cars, I have to show that I will use them in a responsible manner:
1. I am obligated to keep my firearms locked at home in an approved safebox.
2. I have to pass annual psychometric and medical tests.
3. All my firearms are registered and have to be accompanied at all times by their registration certificate.
4. I need a personal firearm permit which implies passing a short test on hunting laws and regulations.
5. I have to be at least 18 years old.
There is no public resistance to these requirements. Gun ownership is a responsibility that is rightly regulated.
