What could be the reason that John Kerry was not comfortable sharing his true feelings about the Israeli Palestinian conflict in public?

Jeez this is just basic interpersonal relations. When you are unhappy with a friend or ally, you usually want to relay this feedback to them privately and not publicly.

It's entirely possible, btw, that Kerry made this "mistake" on purpose, allowing him to share his feelings publicly without looking like he intended to be public critical / embarrass Israel.
