What method could we use to get Europeans traveling in the U.S. to tip?

In Europe, tips are a gratuity, that is a token of gratitude... What is there to be grateful for when a person is just doing the job they are employed to do? If their pay is insufficient, then that is an issue they need to take up with their employer, not their customers. When Europeans go to a restaurant, they go to eat, not support someone's poor career choice.
The US tipping culture is basically just an excuse for employers to reduce costs and increase profits at the expense of their employees and customers, and is not only considered bad practice, but also illegal in most of Europe.
