My first good experience happened at the airport before I even got into the country. After I arrived at the Ottawa airport and had to go through customs, one of the customs officers that cleared me realized I was alone with no family. He followed me outside to ensure I got a ride to wherever I will be staying.
The person whose apartment I had rented online took a day off work to pick me who she had never met at the airport. She also brought me lunch. It was a wonderful experience.
