At the airport check in desks, there was a huge sign simply stating "London Heathrow". Since I didn't see any screens stating flight info, I joined the long queue, and felt chuffed that I was actually early to check in, for a change.
The staff were really slow, and it was around half an hour before I got to the front of the queue.
The gentleman simply looked at my ticket and said "You're in the wrong queue" and sent me to another desk. Asking him what the huge "London Heathrow" sign was there for, he simply said "It's for other passengers".
I was pretty miffed, but realised time was passing, and joined the back of the other long queue he pointed me to.
To cut a long story short, the organisation of the checkin staff was apalling and, after almost 3 hours of messing me around, my plane left without me.
The senior staff member, realising that her team had messed up, asked me if I would mind using a "jump seat". Since I didn't know what it was, I just said "Yes! Please, just get me back to England!"
When I got on the plane, the captain and co-pilot came and introduced themselves to me, and led me into the cockpit, where I spent the entire flight.
I was in my own seat, with many of the flight controls right in front of me. I watched them takeoff and land. We had a great time, chatting, telling jokes, eating first class food and ordering any beverage I wanted, all on the house.
An experience of a lifetime which will probably never happen again.
