Why are you a Republican despite having parents who were Democrats? What events in your life led to you becoming a Republican?

My first real political memory, if you will, was my parents being depressed that Walter Mondale lost the 1984 election. 

My political positions are actually more libertarian than Republican, but I tend to vote for Republican candidates because I believe that the freedoms that are under assault by democrats are far more precarious that those under assault by republicans.  I further don't really buy into most of the democratic party's positions on economics, even though I despise the crony capitalism that the republican party seems to ignore.
