Childbirth: When a baby is born exactly at midnight, which day is the baby's birthday? If someone chooses, who is it?

Right after birth, we recollect all the important information manually. So the date and hour of birth is registered in a big book by a colleague once the midwife delivering the baby screams "APGAR!"

That sets a timer and the time of birth in motion.

We close every day at 11:59:59 PM (23:59:59) So, every baby that's born at 12:00:00 AM (00:00:00) is considered in the stats of the next day.

Once everything is done, we take all the important information and pass it to a program. That program sets the exact same rule. 12:00:00 AM (00:00:00) is considered the beginning of a new day and so, we never have confusions.

We always use the same clock too. That way, we can avoid inconsistencies.
