Fans of ‘The Voice’ ask Nintendo to honor cast member in new game

Christina Grimmie—the 22-year-old singer who was tragically shot and killed after a performance earlier this month—was also a huge fan of the Zelda video game franchise.

In the wake of her death, Grimmie’s supporters have petitioned video game giant Nintendo to include a character in its next installment named after the pop star.

Two Change.org petitions (here and here) are making the call, but Nintendo doesn’t seem willing to comply.

PR reps issued the following statement to press:

We are aware of the outpouring of support for her, as well as the petition, but we won’t be making any creative or content decisions in this time of mourning.

Thought executives response doesn’t completely shut the door on the possibility, it seems unlikely that there will be a Grimmie-related character.

Grimmie’s fandom for Zelda translated to her YouTube screen name, zeldaxlove64.

Nintendo’s decision comes in spite of the more than 75,000 signatures urging the company to include Grimmie in its next game.

Do you think representatives responded appropriately, PR Daily readers?
