I didn't overhear it. It was said to me by a seemingly charming, well-educated, urban 40-something man on a date. Who just happened to be biracial; half black and half white.
We had met for beers, and I think we were on our third one, which may explain the rest of the conversation. I asked him why he felt this way and he said, "It's unnatural. God didn't intend for two men to have sex, let alone get married. Gay marriage should be illegal"
I couldn't help pointing out that when he was born (1965), interracial marriage was also illegal on a federal level. And that many people thought that his parents' union (I didn't know if they were married) was also unnatural and shouldn't be legal.
He said. "That's racist!"
I said, "Yes, it is."
Needless to say, the date didn't last much longer.
