Donald Trump is the president-elect of the United States of America. No amount of protesting will change that. If the goal of protesters is to reverse the outcome of the election, then they’re wasting their time. We should accept the outcome of the election. The democratic process played itself out. Donald Trump won. It’s over.
However. Support is something that is earned. And Donald Trump will only have my support when he demonstrates he is worthy of my support.
Donald Trump has been divisive. He must show me he is capable of being unifying.
Donald Trump has been spiteful. He must show me he is capable of compassion.
Donald Trump has been indecisive. He must show me he is capable of conviction.
Donald Trump has been indecent and disrespectful. He must show me he is capable of comporting himself with dignity and civility.
Donald Trump is woefully unprepared for the duties of his office. He must demonstrate his competence.
Unfortunately, as of this moment, he has failed to show me any of that.
Do I hope, for the sake of my country, that Donald Trump succeeds as president of the United States? Yes, I do. I would never wish for a president to perform poorly for political reasons. His actions have real consequences for real American lives. Of course I hope for the best.
But as it stands right now? I do not support this man or his agenda. Nor am I obligated to. I will do everything in my power to mobilize voters and make sure this administration is over and done with by 2020.
I’ll accept the election results, but don’t expect me to take it lying down. I have my pride, and I will fight for what I believe in.
