Why couldn't the One Ring have been put in a box which couldn't be opened? That way Frodo wouldn't have been tempted to wear it and the servants of Sauron wouldn't have been able to see it.

No such thing as a box that can't be opened in a world that has Dwarves in it. And Saruman had invented some kind of blasting fire.

Now, if Frodo had put it in a locked box, given the box to Círdan without saying what was inside, and asked Círdan to put it aboard the next ship bound for Valinor, something very interesting might have happened. The Valar would have been forced to get off their duffs and deal with it.
