Holocaust deniers do not begin believing that the Holocaust happened even after hearing about it from an actual survivor. They get their sense of self-importance from believing that they possess a “truth” that the vast majority of people do not.
“Birthers” are the same. When Obama produced his birth certificate, birthers immediately pronounced it a forgery. Having heard of Holocaust deniers (not to mention “truthers” who are convinced that the 9/11 attacks were actually carried out by CIA and Mossad agents with the approval or even participation of George W. Bush), Obama knew he had nothing to gain by showing his birth certificate to mentally deranged people.
