Who said it was wrong to defend himself? That’s not the part that is wrong. The part that is wrong is the “defense” he used, if there could even be a convincing defense for that behavior (I don’t know, maybe that somebody spiked his drink with GHB and he lost all his inhibitions?)
It’s a little like if the police asked you, “Why is your wife accusing you of domestic abuse?” and you responded with, “Look, I know it looks bad, but it’s only because she didn’t shut up and do the dishes when I told her to, so I beat her senseless. It’s just good discipline, you know?” It’s the kind of “defense” that makes you look even worse, much like Trump’s.
