WikiLeaks: What do you think about Julian Assange?

I used to admire him. I thought he was naive but noble and doing some important things.

Then I started to get doubts: the releases were often dangerous to innocent people or had petty motivations for who did what. He seemed more interested in ego & self-promotion than actually addressing issues.

Then was the rape thing and I thought he was an idiot. And a sneaky, nasty one at that. He let his friends pay the bail money, he didn’t address the charges. I lost faith then: it is hard to admire a wanted rapist on the run.

And lately I think he is amoral and out of control. The recent releases have no social purpose, are not exposing corruption or bad practices - but they are putting the lives of innocent people at risk.

It is not just Clinton stuff but things like “Here is a list if gay men living in countries where that is illegal”

WikiLeaks outs gay people in Saudi Arabia in ‘reckless’ mass data dump

It is releasing the names of rape victims and private medical records.

WikiLeaks is now releasing private information on rape victims, sick children, gay Saudis

He has gone full circle: Wikileaks is now a good advert for why we shoud have strict controls on information.

Far from promoting openess he proves why it is dangerous.
