David Cameron is in the unusual position of having personally made the decision that led to the referendum which resulted in his position being untenable.
That decision to hold a referendum was a dreadful example of making a very poor decision for short term political expediency. Electing David Cameron was more important than the prosperity and security of the nation.
Such self-serving stupidity and refusal to address the issue at the time should ensure that Cameron goes down in history as one of the most pusillanimous and damaging Prime Ministers of the last 100 years.
