What tips would Adrián Lamo give to a computer science student?

Learn by doing. Doing what interests *you*. What your instructor is teaching you is what they needed to know to get and keep their job, and (more importantly) what's been shuffled around in this year's updated textbook. Develop passions and curiosities of your own, experiment at home, don't be afraid to break your software and start fresh - indeed, starting fresh is some of the best experience.

As long as you can honestly and eloquently answer questions about things that you've genuinely enjoyed teaching yourself, you will always stand out from those students who were only there to make a grade, and you will always love learning. That love is one of the first things lost when we cram ourselves with facts absent of any personal reward or enjoyment.
