What are some of the best life lessons that 2014 taught you?

Thanks for the A2A, Dania Faruqui.

What I learnt from 2014.

  1. Never be afraid to move, change, or alter drastically
It might just change your life. I was working in a comfortable job earning top dollar, but I felt intellectually drained, and surrounded by increasingly constricting bunch of people who used to value money over mind. I moved, I changed, and I altered.

I moved 2000 kms for a new job, it paid me half of what I used to make, I altered my lifestyle, I changed my entire set of friends.

    Result: I am happy.

  2. If you love someone, never be afraid to tell them.
Again, this is something I have said so many times. Only warrior poets like me know the value of a broken heart. It is true that a broken heart mends slowly, but you rediscover things about yourself when you are down and out. You discover life's true meanings, and one's deepset desires and fallacies. Depression is life's cure of depression.

You can fail once, twice, and a billion times; the more you fail the better person you will be. And the better person will you find.

Result: I found my better person.

  3. Never invest in mining
    It's money down the drain.

Result: I didn't waste any, my friends did, and they are suffering.

  4. Keep your friends closer, and get rid of your enemies.
Yes, this goes against the age old saying, I know.

But there is no point giving a flying f*** about people who do not deserve it. Your resources, even in the form of thinking capital, emotional capital are to be spent in the BEST way possible. Only on the BEST of family (yes, not everyone in your family is awesome), and the BEST of friends. Keeping enemies closer might make you aware of what they think, but meh, who cares? Could you influence that anyway? Most probably not. So why bother?

    Result: In process.

  5. Do what you love, love what you do, and never be apologetic for being the way you are.

Yes, this must sound like almost everyone in their world and their grandma has told you the above.

But I really really believe it.

Like flying kites? Your friends laugh at you? Meh. Fly kites.
Like playing computer games? Do it.
China doll figurines? Go for it.

And no, you don't have to be good at doing that either. Do stuff because you just friggin' love doing it anyway.

Result : Well, the above answer. It might not be right, but I don't care.
