Instagram is increasing its effort to make the platform a safe space devoid of the negativity and harassment that exist elsewhere online.
The Facebook-owned visual sharing app’s reps announced they would offer users the ability to turn off comments on their posts. Users just have to tap on the Advanced Settings” tab and select “Turn off Commenting.” Users can also turn them back on.
Instagram is also joining its parent company in allowing users to like specific comments as well as the photos and videos themselves.
“Liking lets you show support and encourages positivism throughout the community,” the company says in a recent blog post.
WORKSHOP: Use Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram to get huge results.
Private accounts will now have the ability to remove certain followers, which Instagram calls “an important way for people to feel comfortable sharing with close friends and family.”
