As government agencies worldwide work to combat obesity, Nestle execs are trying to get ahead of the curve and adjusting some of it products.
The global food giant has announced a way to reduce the amount of sugar in its chocolate products—while retaining sweetness. Nestle says it has a process that will alter sugar’s composition to make it sweeter in smaller amounts.

The company’s chief technology officer, Stefan Catsicas, stopped short of telling media outlets how the process will work, but he did offer the following statement to Bloomberg.com:
We want people to get used to a different taste, a taste that would be more natural. We really want to be the drivers of the solution.
The company plans to roll out the change gradually to get consumers accustomed to eating less sugar.
The process is said to reduce sugar content in food by 40 percent. The company said it will use the new sugar by 2018. If you enjoy Kit Kats, Baby Ruth and Crunch bars just the way they are, you might want to consider start stocking up.
