I carry this small device with me every single day. I use it randomly and consistently. What is this magical little item’s function, you may ask? It measures temperature. That’s all it does. It’s a non-contact infrared thermometer.
It’s not highly sensitive. It isn’t super durable. It’s nothing to show off. But oh how much stimulation it brings me.
“Hmm, I wonder the temperature difference between this black leather versus this brown leather.” During a car ride on a sunny day.
“What are the varying temperatures of this computer under load?” Inspecting a laptop at Walmart. I was testing whether or not the heat would be drawn away from the keyboard so as to avoid discomfort. It wasn’t.
“Is this feces warm?” I was with a friend walking outside at night and we had heard coyotes several times. So when we came upon a pile of feces of course we wanted to know if it was warm or not. It was. About a thirty degree (F) difference from the ambient temperature if I remember correctly.
Just this morning I used it to gauge the effectiveness of a new thermos I was given. The day before at around 6 PM the coffee inside was 143 (F), the next morning at around 10 AM it was 128 (F). My window was open all night with no heater. I’d say the thermos did its job.
