Why are Swedish people so rude?

For the same reason that any other northern European seems rude in southern Europe, or northern Americans seem rude in southern America, or all Europeans seem rude in the Arab world, or Westerners seem rude in Japan. Some regions demand more in the way of social niceties and small talk. You are expected to make pleasantries before getting down to business. People who get directly to the point are failing in their social obligations.

Swedes (and Yankees, in southern American parlance) are no-nonsense people. They use few words. This seems brusque and unfriendly to those who aren't familiar with it. But it's part of an introverted national character. They don't open up easily. They don't want to tell you about their lives, and it embarrasses them if you try to tell them about yours. What you might see as conventional politeness, they might see as pointless jabber.
