That is elitist idiocy.
If the playing field were level, then you could argue that effort and motivation would assure financial success.
But there are plenty of working poor who have two and even three jobs to feed their families, and keep them housed. To suggest that they have not tried hard enough is insane.
“Don't work harder, work smarter,” is a vile platitude. When you struggle to keep the wolf from your door, because of shit luck, you don't want to hear advice from an idiot who practiced medicine, but thought the pyramids were built for grain storage.
